In this post, we’ll walk you through how to create custom sublimation ornaments from start to finish. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned crafter, this guide is for you.
🛠️ Materials You’ll Need:
-
Sublimation ornament blanks (MDF, metal, or ceramic)
-
Sublimation printer (e.g. Sawgrass SG500 or Epson converted)
-
Sublimation paper (A-SUB or TexPrint)
-
Heat-resistant tape
-
Heat press (flat press or swing-away style)
-
Design software (Canva, Photoshop, or CreativeStudio)
Optional: Lint roller, gloves, hole punch, ribbon or string for hanging
🖼️ Step-by-Step Instructions:
1️⃣ Design Your Ornament
Open your design software and create a circular template (usually 3" diameter).
Add text, photos, or holiday graphics. Export your design as a PNG or JPEG at 300 DPI.
2️⃣ Print Your Design
Make sure you mirror your image before printing on sublimation paper.
Use the correct printer settings (high quality, photo paper setting).
3️⃣ Align & Tape
Cut your printed design and align it with the sublimation blank.
Use heat-resistant tape to secure it firmly.
4️⃣ Press It
Set your heat press to the correct settings (e.g. 385°F / 195°C for 60 seconds).
Apply medium pressure. Remove promptly and allow to cool.
5️⃣ Add the Finishing Touches
Peel off the paper carefully. Add a ribbon or hanger through the hole.
Now you have a beautiful, custom ornament ready for gifting!
