DIY Sublimation Keychain Step-by-Step Heat Transfer Tutorial

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Sublimation keychain blanks (MDF or aluminum)

  • Sublimation printer with sublimation ink

  • Sublimation paper

  • Heat press machine

  • Heat-resistant tape

  • Butcher paper or Teflon sheets

 Step 1: Design Your Artwork

Use your preferred design tool to create your custom image, logo, or graphic. Be sure to:

  • Set the correct dimensions for your blank

  • Mirror the design before printing

  • Use high-resolution graphics for the best results

 Step 2: Print Your Design

  • Print on sublimation paper using sublimation ink

  • Let it dry for a minute or two before applying

 Step 3: Prep the Keychain

  • Remove any protective film from the keychain surface

  • Wipe the blank with a lint-free cloth

  • Preheat your heat press to 385–400°F (195–204°C)

 Step 4: Press the Design

  1. Secure the printed design face-down onto the blank using heat-resistant tape

  2. Sandwich it between butcher paper layers

  3. Place it in the heat press

Suggested Settings:

  • Temp: 385–400°F (195–204°C)

  • Time: 50–60 seconds

  • Medium pressure

 Step 5: Cool and Assemble

  • Carefully remove the paper after pressing

  • Let it cool completely

  • Attach the included key ring hardware
